Day 2 Rocky Railway

Opening Theme Song

Today’s Bible Story: Paul encourages others in a storm and shipwreck. (Acts 27)

Today’s Bible Point: Jesus’ power gives us hope.

Today’s Bible Verse: “So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the Lord!” (Psalm 31:24)

During the opening today you will be talking about God Sightings…start thinking about where you see God’s love in your life.

You will also talk about our Bible Buddy…look in your bag for Ava. Here’s a picture of her.

Now here’s Pastor Matt with our opening for today:

We have a God who walks with us and He does that through the power of his son Jesus who loves you so much that he died on the cross to take away all of your sins and on Easter morning he rose from the dead. You have a God who loves you a whole lot!

God’s blessings as you continue your day of VBS with the people around you!

SNACK:

Our snack today was made out of bagels. You should have two mini bagels in your bag. Mom or Dad could you cut the bagels in half? (So you have eight rainbows.) Kids, can you make a tunnel out of your eight rainbows?

Our bagel tunnel isn’t long, but trains can be in dark tunnels for a really long time before the light at the end of the tunnel appears. The light gives hope because it means the train is about to make it through the tunnel. We’ll get through dark or hard times in our lives, too. Today’s special Bible verse, Psalm 31:24 tells us, “So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the Lord!” JESUS POWER GIVES US HOPE! (Trust Jesus!)

Enjoy eating your bagels!

GAMES:

Today in games we’re going to play something like the game on TV called, “The Floor is Lava”. Instead, we’re going to call it “The Grass is Water”. Our Bible story today is about Paul encouraging the people around him during a storm and shipwreck. In our game we’re going to place large shape cut outs or couch cushions or pillows on the floor or grass. Make a path from one spot to another…such as from your front door to the living room or from your back porch to the garden…using the shapes or cushions. Now, you have to stay on the cut out, cushion, pillow, or blanket. YOU CAN’T TOUCH THE GROUND. Try stepping or hopping from cushion to cushion along the path without getting any part of your body on the ground. Can you make it?

This game had some challenges. It isn’t always easy to tell how far you will need to jump or to jump so well that you don’t even get your heel on the floor.

What gave you hope that you could make it to the end without touching the floor?

In life we face big challenges- some might be so hard that they seem hopeless. But there’s always hope through any challenge when we’re friends with Jesus. JESUS POWER GIVES US HOPE! (Trust Jesus!)

BIBLE:

Join us in learning about Paul and how he was able to share Jesus with so many people even though at the beginning he was one of those people who didn’t believe in Jesus.

CRAFT:

Today’s craft is a pop-out sun. You should be able to find blue paper plates, a yellow circle, brads, and cotton balls in your bag. You will also need crayons and glue (glue stick or elemer’s liquid glue will work.)

Here’s what you should do:

  1. Ask: “Tell me about a storm you’ve been in.” Have kids draw a picture of where they were during the storm leaving room at the top for clouds.
  2. Use a brad to attach the yellow circle to the back of the plate so it can tuck in behind the plate completely and “pop out” when turned.
  3. After kids finish coloring, help them glue cotton balls along the top to be clouds. Have them use a black marker to make them into ‘storm’ clouds.
  4. In Bible today you learned about some sailors who were in a terrible storm. Things seemed hopeless for them – maybe they wondered if they were ever going to see the sun again. Jesus helped Paul give them hope that the sun would eventually pop out of the clouds. Let’s make a craft to remind us that when hard or scary things happen, we can have hope that Jesus is still in charge. JESUS POWER GIVES US HOPE! (Trust Jesus!)
  5. Take a picture of your finished project and post it in the comments on this page or email it to me at ourredeemerkids@gmail.com.

CLOSING:

Let’s start our closing with God Sightings. Where did you see God at work in your life yesterday or today? There are so many places where we see God’s love in our lives! Make sure you take time to thank Him for them today. Please take a moment to post one in the comments to this post. It will be fun to share our God-Sightings on-line.

Here is Pastor Matt with our Rocky Wrap Up closing!

CLOSING SONGS:

That’s all for Day 2! Come back for more fun tomorrow!

Day 1 Sing & Play Express

That is our theme song for the week. We’re trusting in you Jesus!

Today’s Bible Story: Ananias Helps Saul Acts 9:1-19

Today’s Bible Point: Jesus’ power helps us do hard things.

Today’s Bible Verse: “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13

Here’s Pastor Matt with today’s opening:

Wow! Our God is amazing isn’t He! Now would be a great time to listen to track #3 on your Music CD: “There is Power in the Blood”

We can do so many things through Jesus! We can come to our Heavenly Father and talk to him in prayer. We can come together with friends and family and share our love for Jesus. We are led and taught by His Holy Spirit through God’s Word. One of the best things we can do is become His forgiven children marked as His through the water of our baptism. You are His! He loves you so much!

SNACK:

Our snack today was supposed to have been a train track made out of granola bars and red vine candy. It would have been so cute! We have included the granola bar in your bag for today. Since you’re at home, maybe you could grab a glass of water or juice and your granola bar and sit down and tell your brothers or sisters or Moms or Dads what you’re thinking about what we’ve done so far today. What do you think of VBS at home? Have Mom or Dad read the Bible Point and Bible verse up at the top of this post. Just enjoy some time together with Jesus. Sound good? Ready, Set, Go!

GAMES:

Today for games we played a relay water game. You put water in one bucket and set it 5 feet away from an empty bucket and use sponges to fill with water and move the water from the full bucket to the empty bucket. Do you think that would be easy or hard? How long would it take? Who helps us to do hard things?

BIBLE:

Join Pastor Matt in a Bible story that reminds us that, “Jesus’ power helps us do hard things.” (You can yell, “Trust Jesus!”)

It’s based on Acts 9:1-19 Ananias Helps Saul Before or after watching Pastor Matt…or sometime later today, open your “Tracking with Jesus” books to page 4-10. There’s some information in there to help you think about the story and remember it.

CRAFT: Today you will be making a train with different shapes. There should be a large background paper, some clouds, and some squares, rectangles, triangles and circles. Look at home for some glue or tape. Build your train and then take a picture and share it here in the comments…or send it to ourredeemerkids@gmail.com.

CLOSING:

It’s been fun here at Rocky Railway! We’ve had some adventures both at home and on-site. In your bag you received a bracelet that says, “watch for God”. Take it out and put it on. You can wear it all week and it will help you remember to watch for all those moments in your life where God blesses you. You know…like when your best friend goes out with you to have ice cream cones and you laugh together. Or maybe when you’re feeling really sad and your brother puts his arm around your neck. There are so many places where we see God’s love in our lives! Make sure you take time to thank Him for them today. Please take a moment to post one in the comments to this post. It will be fun to share our God-Sightings on-line.

Closing Songs:

That’s all for Day 1 VBS! We can’t wait to ‘see’ you tomorrow!

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus your own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
